Introducing our LGBT+ History "Building Inclusion Through Play" resource for primary schools
We are proud to launch the next instalment of our innovative "Building Inclusion Through Play" educator resource videos. The videos help you to use play-based learning to highlight inspiring role models and pivotal moments in LGBTQ+ history, inspiring young people to be upstanders against prejudice and bullying.

Secondary resource: Standing up through activism (Year 9+)
This resource accompanies a series of videos from our inspiring Role Models sharing their personal stories.
Through providing inspiring videos, engaging discussion questions and dynamic activities, this resource helps you empower your students to be upstanders against prejudice and bullying this LGBT+ History Month.
Students will be able to:
- Explain the meaning of activism and being an upstander
- Recognise the impact of activism to bring about social change
- Appraise the role of media activism in shaping public perception

Making History: Role Models and Moments in LGBTQ+ History (Year 5+ Teacher Video)
In this teacher video, Lindsey explains how to run our LGBT+ History Month 2025 ‘Building Inclusion Through Play’ activity, aligned to this year's theme of Activism and Social Change. This engaging activity highlights significant individuals and events from LGBTQ+ history while providing a creative way to bring these stories to life using LEGO bricks. Lindsey also provides a detailed overview of all the resources needed to successfully carry out this activity.
Making History: Role Models and Moments in LGBTQ+ History (Year 5+ Classroom Video)
In this classroom video, Lindsey presents our LGBT+ History Month 2025 ‘Building Inclusion Through Play’ activity, aligned to this year's theme of Activism and Social Change. This video is a companion video to the teacher’s video and can be shared in your classroom. You can pause the video at any point to clarify instructions. Please ensure the class teacher has reviewed the video and assessed its suitability for your class. This dynamic activity highlights significant individuals and events from LGBTQ+ history while providing a creative way to bring these stories to life using LEGO bricks. Lindsey provides a step-by-step guide for young people to engage in this video. She provides ideas and examples of the activity as she leads them through the lesson.

It’s the perfect resource to accompany your lessons on the importance of Activism and Social Change, this year’s theme for LGBT+ History Month 2025. The video has a free teaching resource containing a range of other inspiring videos themed around Activism and Social Change, complete with questions, activity ideas and quality resource to empower your students to be upstanders against prejudice and bullying this LGBT+ History Month.

Primary Role Model Story: Simon's Story
Our wonderful Role Model Simon shares his personal story about growing up gay and reflects on how changes to the law and attitudes have since allowed him to marry his husband. This story, along with those of Tilla, Paul and Steve form part of our LGBTQ+ History and Rights resource for Years 5+, which is the perfect pack to engage with this year’s theme of Activism and Social Change. The resource contains a range of discussion questions, activities and resources to empower your students to learn about LGBTQ+ history and celebrate difference.
