Our fun and educational classroom based workshops allow students to explore different types of families through activities, storytelling and interaction with LGBTQ+ or ally Role Models, adapted throughout the year groups to maintain developmentally appropriate content. Students are inspired to celebrate diversity, challenge bullying and create a safe and welcoming school environment for all.

Embracing Difference Workshop Content
Our primary school workshops focus on exploring diverse families and teaching children about the fundamental similarities that exist between all families, regardless of how they look from the outside. The highlight of this session is a story from one of our LGBTQ+ or ally Role Models who speak about their family. We adapt the workshop for different year groups to ensure they are engaging and age-appropriate.
- Early Years workshops are based on the story Mixed by Aree Chung and explores, through continuous provision,
- Year 1 and 2 workshops celebrate difference through sharing the story ‘Odd Dog Out’ by Rob Biddulph. We consider how to make everyone feel included while allowing students to reflect upon what makes them unique.
- Years 3 and 4 workshops we consider how to challenge stereotypes and celebrate all differences.
- Years 5 and 6 workshops are centered around a quote from the poet Audre Lorde about celebrating difference, we explore what it means to be an upstander.
Each workshop is designed to last 45-60 minutes.

LGBTQ+ Workshop Content

- Year 1 and 2 workshops are based around the story Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival which offers an easily accessible narrative on how we are all different and how everyone should be treated with respect.
- Years 3 and 4 workshops will introduce key concepts and terminology relating to relationships and families in the LGBTQ+ community and how people can be bullied or stereotyped for their identities.
- Years 5 and 6 workshops will introduce key terms relating to sexual orientation and gender identity before exploring how members of the LGBTQ+ community can sometimes face prejudice and discrimination.
Each workshop is designed to last 45-60 minutes.
